Morning flight from Quito or Guayaquil to Baltra, Galapagos Islands. After passing through immigration and baggage claim, you will be met by a staff member and brought into a private bus to start your adventure in Galapagos.
Accessible by bus from Puerto Ayora, the highlands of Santa Cruz are a deep green which contrast beautifully with the dry, lower part of the islands. The predominant vegetation in the highlands are Scalesia trees which create a lush green forest. The lava tunnels, over half a mile long, are underground and walking through them is a unique, surreal experience. At this place you’ll have lunch.
*The first excursion will be after being picked up at the airport upon arrival to the islands, so it is advisable to travel with suitable clothing and footwear for walking.
In the morning, the adventure begins with a visit to Suarez Point. As you traverse the trail, keep your eyes peeled for the captivating presence of blue-footed boobies, albatrosses, and Nazca boobies. This island serves as the breeding grounds for nearly all of the world's 12,000 pairs of waved albatrosses, offering a rare glimpse into their fascinating world. At the oceanfront site, marvel at a towering cliff, utilized by the majestic albatrosses as a launching pad. Witness the renowned blowhole, sending sea water cascading into the air, and capture the stunning landscape through your lens – a photographer's paradise.
In the afternoon, the journey continues to Gardner Bay, Gardner Islet, and Osborn Islet. Your exploration of Gardner Bay unveils a spectacular white-sand beach, where a bustling sea lion colony awaits. Step onto the shores amidst the playful sea lion pups or take a refreshing swim alongside them. Keep an eye out for curious mockingbirds adding to the charm of this enchanting beach setting. It's an afternoon filled with marine wonders and picturesque moments.
In the morning, embark on an exploration of Santa Fe Island, also known as Barrington. Nestled on the island's northeast coast, this charming locale boasts a small picturesque bay and anchorage. Discover the beauty of two visitor trails; one leading to a captivating scenic viewpoint atop a cliff, and the other meandering from a quaint beach to a towering forest of tall prickly pear cacti.
As the afternoon unfolds, your journey continues to the enchanting South Plaza Island. Carved by rising lava, this petite island showcases steep cliffs adorned with Opuntia cacti. Witness the vibrant life that inhabits its terrain, including one of the largest sea lion colonies and striking yellow and red land iguanas. The landscape is dominated by the characteristic Sesuvium plant, its color transitioning from a greenish to yellowish tone during the rainy season and transforming into a brilliant red during the dry season (end of June through January). Immerse yourself in the rich hues and diverse wildlife of South Plaza Island, creating memories against a backdrop of natural wonders.
This morning, embark on a final excursion to Black Turtle Cove, located in the northern part of Santa Cruz. This inlet is encircled by mangroves and can only be accessed by dinghy. Serving as a sanctuary for juvenile marine life, the shallow cove is frequented by black-tip and white-tip reef sharks, sea turtles, and a diverse array of rays.
Following this final exploration, a seamless transfer will take you to Baltra airport, ensuring you're on schedule for your flight back to the mainland. Reflect on the diverse wonders encountered throughout the day as you bid farewell to the enchanting Galapagos Islands.
